A Perfect Fit

The Bride: Emily Demers
The Groom: Channing Lyon
Wedding Date: July 31, 2010
Venue: Seacoast Science Center

With a closet stacked with close to 100 pairs of shoes, most in their original boxes, it’s safe to say Emily Demers has a bit of a shoe fetish. Those skills employed in the hunt for a great pair of new stilettos came in handy when this bride set out on her venue search. Fit and style were essential. She and fiancé Channing Lyon wanted an outdoor venue near Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with ocean views, enough space to comfortably accommodate their 160 guests. The Seacoast Science Center in Rye was a picture-perfect fit, leaving Emily with the same sense of satisfaction she found when slipping her feet into the blue satin Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps she wore on her wedding day.
Venue – Science of Love
Emily and Channing’s guests sat a stone's throw from the Atlantic shoreline while the couple exchanged vows at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, New Hampshire. They followed with a tented reception on the museum’s lawn that runs right up to the ocean, which hugs Odiorne Point State Park.
Ceremony – Welcome to the Family
Rather than taking the expected front-row seat at the ceremony, Channing’s father, known for being an outstanding public speaker, stood with the bride and groom, presiding over the ceremony as officiant.
Décor – Oceanside
Emily let a nautical theme evolve naturally as she chose starfish and seaglass to decorate the tables. Navy blue and white dominated, while pops of hot pink were appropriate given the near 90-degree summer heat.
Signature Cocktail – Cool as a Cucumber
Hendricks gin, cucumber puree, fresh-squeezed lemon, and a splash of ginger ale combined to make a fitting, summer-appropriate signature cucumber cocktail.
Table Numbers – Car Show
Channing’s love of cars could be compared to (and may even trump) Emily’s passion for shoes, so the couple used photos of classic cars in lieu of table numbers. A photo in the center of each table indicated the car for which the table was named, a 1956 Porsche Speedster and a 1969 Boss 302 Mustang among others.
Bridesmaids' Gowns – Their Style
Emily’s bridesmaids wore navy blue, while her maid of honor stood apart in a vibrant shade of pink. All chose their own style of dress from the Amsale collection at L’élite Bridal Boutique on Newbury Street in Boston.
Flowers – A Bunch of Blooms
The bridal bouquet burst with ivory calla lilies, cymbidium orchids, white hydrangea, French roses, and lisianthus, giving the arrangement an array of soft, ivory texture. A modern mix of hot pink roses, deep blue delphinium, and pink calla lilies made the centerpieces and bridesmaids' bouquets pop from the soft ocean backdrop.
Dessert – A Towering Confection
Like a towering pyramid, 180 vanilla- and dark chocolate-flavored cupcakes served as the support structure upon which rested the piece de resistance: a six-inch dark chocolate ganache and raspberry-filled cake finished with white-chocolate cream cheese frosting.

A Perfect Fit

With a closet stacked with close to 100 pairs of shoes, most in their original boxes, it’s safe to say Emily Demers has a bit of a shoe fetish. “I might convert to clear Tupperware and organize them by type so it’s easier to find what I’m looking for,” she laughs. Those skills employed in the hunt for a great pair of new stilettos came in handy when this bride set out on her venue search. Fit and style were essential. She and fiancé Channing Lyon wanted an outdoor venue near Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with ocean views, enough space to comfortably accommodate their 160 guests, and availability on their desired date, July 31, 2010, exactly one year (and 2 days) from the day they got engaged. The Seacoast Science Center in Rye was a picture-perfect fit, leaving Emily with the same sense of satisfaction she found when slipping her feet into the blue satin Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps she wore on her wedding day.
