The Missing Piece

The Bride: Carly Chamberlin
The Groom: Artie Johann
Date: May 22, 2010
Venue: Lewes Historical Society (Lewes, DE)

One of Carley Chamberlin’s favorite stories from childhood was The Missing Piece Meets the Big O by Shel Silverstein. The story is about a missing piece that travels along looking for a place to fit and after many efforts, adventures, and failures; the piece finally finds its home with the “big O,” who is, ironically, already whole. When Carley met television writer Artie Johann, it didn’t take her long to realize that he was indeed, her “big O.” Guests were invited to a May 22, 2010, wedding celebration in Carley’s hometown of Lewes, Delaware, via a Shel Silverstein–inspired stationery suite, while the couple’s vows and a ceremony reading both included excerpts from none other than The Missing Piece Meets the Big O.
Bridal Attire
Carly purchased her ivory Paloma Blanca, A-line gown at a Brides Against Breast Cancer charity event. All proceeds from the purchase of these donated, pre-owned gowns help support an individual fighting cancer.

Reception
“Good beer and plenty of cake,” says the bride of her priorities for their wedding reception. Guests washed down a spring barbecue spread of chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and pound cake with local micro-brewed ales from the likes of Dogfish Head.
Stationery
Inspired by their Shel Silverstein ceremony readings, Carley designed and assembled Giving Tree–themed invitations and programs featuring an illustration of a tree with their initials carved into the bark.
Flowers
Bright, spring colors burst from Carley’s bouquet, which matched the centerpieces at the reception. The bridesmaids, in rose chiffon, carried playful yellow bouquets of gerbera daisies and wildflowers.
