For the Love of Rock 'n' Roll

The Bride: Amy Michealson
The Groom: Christopher Kelly
Wedding Date: April 4, 2009
Venue: Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum

Amy Michealson and Christopher Kelly met during their first day of law school at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and immediately bonded over a shared love of rock music. So it was fitting that they chose the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, for their April 4, 2009, event. The museum’s modern interior is home to many relics of musical history: Old jukeboxes and instruments played a natural role in the wedding decor, while the fully equipped performance hall where their live band played was an added bonus for this music-loving couple.
Venue – On-Stage Atmosphere
Nashville is known for its country music, but the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum is dedicated to all genres, which spoke to the couple’s shared passion: Chris is a member of a rock 'n' roll band, while Amy sings and plays guitar. The couple hired a professional lighting crew, and instead of a traditional reception atmosphere, the museum, combined with the unique lighting, provided the ambiance of a classy nightclub.

Ceremony – All Their Own
With family and friends from diverse religious backgrounds, it was important to the couple that their ceremony did not offend anyone’s specific beliefs. “A local judge and graduate from UT Knoxville College of Law [like Chris and I] performed a lovely ceremony without creating any awkward moments or evoking gasps from our guests,” Amy recalls. They incorporated unique, non-traditional readings, like an excerpt from Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms.
Ceremony Programs – Two Down
Chris and Amy's simple, elegant white programs were handmade and bound with black ribbon. Each included a crossword puzzle with the answers being cute, silly details about the couple (six across, seven letters, starts with a B: Amy’s favorite band), a quirky, fun detail for their guests to enjoy before the ceremony began.
Accessories - Dancing Shoes
Knowing that she would spend much of the night on her feet, Amy chose comfortable yet chic footwear for her wedding celebration. Her sequin adorned Puma flats proved the perfect dancing shoes.
Flowers – Cool Blooms
White Eskimo roses, ivory calla lilies, green hypernicum berries, and bear grass loops (to name a few) could be seen throughout the bride's and bridesmaids' bouquets. At the altar, large vases were filled with bright granny smith apples and topped with dendrobium orchids, white roses, bells of Ireland, white tulips, and shoots of dark bear grass. The ivory, black, and green color scheme suited the sophisticated, classy nightclub scene.
First Dance – A Song of You
The band played "Georgia on My Mind" as the couple shared their first dance. “Chris is from Georgia,” the bride recalls. “When I first met him, I would hear that song everywhere I went, and, well, maybe Georgia was on my mind.”
Ceremony Tradition – Ringing in the Newlyweds
For their grand exit, the couple created an environmentally friendly, cost-effective alternative to the traditional rice and rose petals. Silver bells were strung on sweet, little loops of green and white ribbon, creating mini-musical instruments for their guests to shake as the couple made their way through the crowd. “They actually produced a really great sound and generated no mess,” Amy explains.
