Transatlantic Romance

The Bride: Alicia Connors
The Groom: Jon Williams
Wedding Date: September 9, 2009
Venue: Captain Linnell House

Planning a transatlantic wedding was of no major concern for Alicia Connors and Jon Williams; they were well versed in communicating internationally. After meeting in Dallas, Texas, in 2001, they maintained a long-distance relationship between Boston and London, traveling to see each other once a month. After three years of their British-American romance, Alicia’s job transferred her to London, and soon after, Jon proposed. Being from coastal Massachusetts, Alicia felt a strong connection to Cape Cod, which led them to plan a September wedding at the Captain Linnell House in Orleans, Massachusetts.

Transatlantic Romance

Planning a transatlantic wedding was of no major concern for Alicia Connors and Jon Williams; they were well versed in communicating internationally. After meeting in Dallas, Texas, in 2001, they maintained a long-distance relationship between Boston and London, traveling to see each other once a month. “It was a worthwhile challenge,” says Alicia. After three years of their British-American romance, Alicia’s job transferred her to London, and soon after, Jon proposed. Being from coastal Massachusetts, Alicia felt a strong connection to Cape Cod, which led them to plan a September 9, 2009, wedding at the Captain Linnell House in Orleans, Massachusetts.
Accommodations – A Home Base
For Alicia and Jon, the most important aspect of their wedding was for their two families to spend time together; being from two different countries, they didn’t get this chance often. They rented a 10-bedroom house for 12 days and used it as a home base during their adventures before and after the wedding.
Date – Autumn in New England
The September date allowed their international guests to experience New England in all its glory. Some guests went on a whale watch out of Boston; others explored the golden sand beaches of the Cape. Last but certainly not least, the couple treated their friends and family to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, everyone leaving with an authentic Red Sox cap with the couple’s initials and wedding date on the back.
Venue – A Romantic History
The Captain Linnell House, located in Cape Cod’s elbow on the bayside, is a French- designed, neo-classic villa rich with detail. Built in 1850 by a clipper-ship captain, the mansion is filled with furniture and décor from his worldly travels. Out back, its sprawling grounds and gardens are filled with wisteria and lavender.
Reception Tables – Love of Literature
The couple shared a love of literature, and each table at the reception represented the work of a treasured British or American poet. The poems could be read on decorative scrolls, which were placed in the center of each table.
Flowers – In the Family
Alicia’s aunt owned a flower shop for many years and built all of the elaborate bouquets of lovely large ivory and soft pink roses. Blue hydrangeas added the perfect pop of color throughout the centerpieces.
A Lasting Memory – Grand Exit
The newly married couple sped away from the site of their nuptials in a 1973 Triumph TR6; it was the final detail in marrying their two cultures. They enjoyed a short ride to the beach with the top down where their photographer, Liesl Clark, met them for a sunset photo opp.
