The Stage - La Valencia Hotel:
Perched atop the area’s famed La Jolla Cove, the classically opulent La Valencia Hotel hosted the oceanfront wedding ceremony and reception.
Set amidst year-round flowering gardens, breathtaking sunsets, and framed against the blue Pacific Ocean, La Valencia provided a perfect setting for a majestic Southern California wedding.
The hotel’s intimate garden held the ceremony, while the reception room featured sliding glass doors that opened to an expansive patio overlooking the Pacific in the horizon.
A Chance Meeting:
Nick and Marcy met while living in San Diego. A mutual friend made the introductions, and their paths crossed over the subsequent months. However, it was not until a housewarming party they both attended that the couple finally found the forum to get to know each other better. The chemistry was there, and they have been inseparable ever since.
A Destination Wedding:
Nick and Marcy knew that the city where they met and began their relationship would be the most appropriate and meaningful location for their wedding. Often recognized as one of the most beautiful locations in San Diego, La Jolla made the obvious choice of venue.
La Valencia provided the ocean view, eclectic décor and intimate setting that they were looking for. They fell in love with the site immediately and booked the date the same day.
Since the majority of guests were traveling a great distance to attend, Nick and Marcy sought to make the trip as seamless as possible for guests. All wedding related events, from the bridesmaids’ luncheon to the rehearsal dinner, were planned in walking distance from the hotels. Guests were also greeted with a welcome beach bag, filled with various snacks and San Diego tourist information.
Simple Elegance:
The ceremony was accompanied by a string quartet and a solo trumpeter to announce the bride’s entrance and recessional. Marcy chose a Bordeaux color scheme, which she weaved throughout the wedding details, including the bridesmaids’ dresses, floral elements, menu and program cards, cake accents and chair sashes. They treated guests to premium food and beverage options, serving a four course dinner that featured filet and crab stuffed lobster tail and tuxedo dipped strawberries. During cocktail hour, guests sipped the day’s signature drink, a refreshing white sangria.
Friends and Family Coming Together:
The most memorable events are those that are steeped in love and friendship, and Marcy and Nick’s wedding was no exception. Enticed by San Diego’s reputation for balmy sunny days and the couple’s perfectly orchestrated hospitality, guests arrived in town early and lingered in the area long after the event’s “official” ending. The air was perpetually jovial, the vibe - always spirited.
All in the Details...
Attire:
Bride’s Wedding Dress – Anne Barge - Marcy wore a timeless strapless silk satin wedding gown. A band of beading around the gown’s top was balanced perfectly with a matching band around the lower waist. The bodice was further accented with an elegant, hand-stitched design featuring a melody of beads and crystals brought together in perfect unison. The bride’s look was completed with a long, trailing veil that extended beyond the gown’s sweeping train.
Bridesmaids’ Dresses and Attire – Jim Hjelm - To ensure that her bridesmaids would be comfortable with their attire on the wedding day, Marcy selected a color and allowed the girls to choose the dress style. The bridesmaids wore floor length, strapless, bordeaux gowns by Jim Hjelm. The dresses featured delicate color-coordinated beading around the lower bust and a short, but classic, train emanating from the lower back, complementing the Bride’s wedding gown. Timeless pearl studs completed the look.
Flowers: Florist, Haydee’s Creative Flowers - San Diego, CA
Bride’s Bouquet – Deep Red Roses
Bridemaids’ Bouquets – Coordinating Red Roses and Green Orchids (Marcy’s favorite flower)
Centerpieces – Tables adorned with three vases of varying heights and flora, each filled with roses, hydrangeas or orchids.
Wedding Cake – Flour Power - San Diego, CA
Both self professed chocolate junkies, Marcy and Nick chose an indulgent chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate fudge and one of chocolate moose. White buttercream frosting covered the cake, which was accented by a simple design and bordeaux ribbons along the bottom of each tier.
