Love Letters

The Bride: Emily Broas
The Groom: Greg Carbone
Date: September 16, 2011
Venue: Mountain View Grand Resort(Whitefield, NH)

Greg remembers when he first started talking to Emily. Or rather, writing to her. The two met in elementary school through a pen pal program and stayed friends through high school. For years, their paths crossed. “When we both settled down back home after college, we soon realized that we were meant to be more than just friends,” says Emily. Forever written together, Emily brought back a bit of nostalgia when she hand-wrote a note to her hubby-to-be right before the ceremony – a little bit of love and encouragement to warm any cold feet he might have had.

Venue
The backdrop at the Mountain View Grand Resort in Whitefield, New Hampshire, was the perfect nod to this nature-loving couple’s lifestyle. With an open-air ceremony and a reception location with views of the mountains, their 175 guests always had a view of the great outdoors the couple loves so much.
Dress
Emily was totally against a strapless dress until she stepped into this private label gown with beading and a sweetheart neckline. “It was just simple and elegant. It made me feel like a bride for the first time,” she says.
Something Old, Something Blue
On the day of the wedding, Emily’s parents gave her a vintage 1920s ring they had found at an antique shop. They had replaced the stones with two diamonds on the side and a sapphire in the middle. It quickly become her “something old” and “something blue.”

Trucking Along
The couple drove away from the ceremony in Greg’s late father’s 1974 antique blue GMC truck. As a tribute to his dad, they left a picture of Greg with his brother and father tucked on the dash for the wedding day.
Wedding Whoopie
Before Emily and Greg walked down the aisle, the bride-to-be sent her groom a giant whoopie pie (his favorite dessert) with a note telling him how excited she was to share the day with him. “I thought he would like a little treat to take the edge off before the wedding,” she says. “We ended up eating that thing for the rest of the weekend!”
Picture This
On top of the ballroom piano, the couple lined pictures of their family and friends – many of whom they wished could have shared their big day with them – as well as white pillar candles and a scattering of flowers.
Flowers
Wanting to keep it clean and classic, the couple chose white blooms and green hydrangeas to decorate their ceremony and reception. Limes were nestled in the bottom of the glass vases for that extra pop of green.

Advice from the Bride
“As long as everyone is happy and healthy, everything will work out the way it should,” says Emily. Don’t stress if minor details of the actual day don’t go as planned – no one will know! Just be open to changing your mind during the process.
